I write about the paranormal, not porn

I was reading something recently, and was very offended at the language. (I won't mention names, so as not to offend the author or hurt anyone's feelings.) Now, I'm pretty open minded and I'm certainly no saint, but this language was foul. If there is dialogue in a porn movie, this is the kind you would expect. The book was marketed as a romance.

To me repeated use of the word "cock" is not romantic, nor is it erotic. It's not even creative, it's just plain dirty. I can understand saying something like this once in a while, but at least switch it up.

Sure, I like sex, and I write plenty of it. However, I don't believe there should be graphic language just thrown in for giggles here and there. I write like I speak and even though I do cuss, I'm not going to walk up to someone and use the word "pussy" on a regular basis. LOL

By the time I reached page 37, which is where I stopped reading, the "p" word had been used at least 50 times. There was also a gratuitous masturbation scene (pg. 33) that I really could have done without.

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not a prude. Anyone who really knows me knows that. This was just way over the top. What about you guys? Do you like graphic language to be prevalent in a book?

Release Date for Red

I've just been informed that Red is tentatively scheduled for release in late August 2007. If you'd like to watch the coming soon trailer, you can check it out here http://www.myspace.com/traceyhkitts.

What could be better than taking less than two minutes to look at pictures of hot guys? LOL After all, there are plenty of hot werewolves in this story, might as well make that obvious.

Favorite Author

One of my all time favorite authors is J.K. Rowling. Her ability to spin a yarn has nothing to do with knitting, yet she weaves a magnificent tapestry all the same. I don't know about anyone else, but I am anxiously awaiting the next movie and the final book.

As I attempt to balance writing, home, and another job, I find she is often very inspiring to me. I look up to her and admire her success. Snape was my favorite character from the beginning, so I can't wait to see what she does with him in the final chapter. I won't say more in case someone hasn't read through book six, don't want to spoil the plot in any way.

Anyone else waiting to see what happens?

Vampires vs Werewolves, which side will you take?

I'd like to know which you prefer. This could be in terms of sex appeal, or just a fair (or unfair) fight. Do you think vampires are sexy? Why? Or do you just love a man with a hairy chest? So what if he has his own time of the month? Let me know what you think. This question goes for men or women, depending on your preference. If you've got time, take a minute to let us know why you feel the way you do.

Gypsies, tramps and thieves?

When I woke up that song was on my mind, just couldn't resist using it as a topic. But, enough about my last family reunion. LOL I can't say enough for just taking a weekend to do absolutely nothing. I feel very much refreshed, and as the coffee brews this morning, so does ... gasp ... another story idea.

I'm still editing Brain Dead, which I personally feel is the best thing I've ever written. I'm not full of myself, so I'm not just saying that. I've looked at my own work and been able to admit before when it needs ... well, work. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it is polished, and there is a drastic difference in this, my sixth book, and my first.

My first book Red has already been contracted with New Concepts Publishing, though a release date has not been established yet. Book two is currently under review, and I am hopeful:) Now, there's a phrase I haven't used in a while. It is amazing what a return to exercise and taking your vitamins can do to a person. I feel like a new woman compared to last week.

So, I'm not going to start my new idea yet, since I do need some rest seeing as how writing is not my only job. However, I am writing it down to put away in my little notebook for later. Actually, I have several notebooks, this one is going in the "new story idea" notebook. I try to be organized, but it's probably just OCD.

A positive outlook

I'm trying really hard to have one. I've just been working too hard. I know I haven't blogged in a while, that's because I didn't have anything particularly wonderful to say. These are just my feelings and opinions. We've all got them.

I have however finished another novel and am currently working on editing. Yeah:)

Things that I look forward to

I try not to look forward to anything. Now you can either relate to that, or it could be the most cynical thing you've ever heard. It seems like everything I look forward to has a way of going to hell in a hand basket. We're talking from 0-60 at the speed of thought. I made the mistake of looking forward to my vacation. Everything in the world has gone wrong over these past two weeks, including I have NOT gotten a chance to finish the novel I was working on, but that's okay.

It looks as if I'm going to get to go on my vacation after all, and between you and me, I need it ... BAD. Who knows, perhaps the ending of my book will be all the more spectacular after I've had some time to collect my thoughts.

How great does that sound? An entire week in Jamaica with nothing to do and nowhere to be. No one wanting anything from me but my drink order. Ahhhh. All my life I've been a very positive person and for the most part I have a good attitude. But lately, I could give Lewis Black and Dennis Leary a run for their money. Oh yes, it's time for a vacation.
