Heartfelt wishes:)

I hope everyone had a great Holiday:) I wanted to take a minute and wish everyone a (early) and prosperous New Year. I'm going to throw myself into my work and hopefully finish my latest book over the next few weeks, so I might not get a chance to stop by for New Year's. But that shouldn't suggest that I don't wish you all the best in the coming year. May you have amazing good luck and amazing people to share it with.

Sincerely,

Tracey

Up and running

My computer (as some of you already know) has been down for the past month. Now, I'm a month behind on two manuscripts, plus website updates, etc. Anyway, I'm hard at work on my latest book "Sex Symbol."

I just wanted to let everyone know that I hadn't died or anything. LOL

Thanks to all who read my blog. I promise to have more interesting things to say just as soon as I get caught up a bit:)

Early Bird

I'm up way earlier than is natural for me. LOL This is an attempt at getting some more physical activity and a bit more writing done. Do you realize how long it's been since I watched a sunrise? I was starting to feel like one of the vamps in my novels. LOL Too much late night working and too little sleep have been keeping me in bed much later than I needed to be. Here's to attempting a cardio workout in the next thirty minutes and on to a really hot scene I've got in mind to write today. *toasts everyone with coffee cup*

Have a good Monday!

Stop posting pornographic comments on my blog

This is not the place to advertise for "male friends." And just because you post it in Japanese doesn't mean I can't translate it. Unfortunately, due to this idiocy, all comments must now be moderated.

This is a blog about writing and the life of this particular writer is sometimes shared here as well. Though some of the content (excerpts and such) may occasionally be graphic, this is not the place for porn or dating services. Whoever you are, piss off. I'm tired of hitting "delete."

Another great review of Bitten

Bitten has just received a 4.5 review from Night Owl Romance. How cool is that?

I'm a reviewer top pick:) The review came with a neat little graphic I couldn't get to display here and everything. LOL But, if you click on the review link, you can see my pretty little top pick graphic there:)

Hallelujah

After getting into a brief discussion about Watchmen and the scene I found incredibly sexy, I had the urge to hear the song from that scene. Last night I listened to Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah a couple of times before I went to bed ... and the ideas wouldn't stop.

I've got almost an entire story in my head today. All I've got to do is start making notes. Though, I made a few last night.

That is such a sexy song. It has so many meanings. It's the fall of King David as well as the fall of man. It's a joyful noise before the Lord. It's a broken word of praise, stolen from the lips of a broken man. It's beautiful and sexy at the same time. And the way they use the song in Watchmen is what I call "borderline blasphemous," and still I loved it.

Man, do I ever have ideas today. I'm still planning to take a short break before finishing that space opera I was working on. Maybe this new idea will be next. For now, I'm calling it The Invitation.

Time

It's almost two o'clock in the morning and everything is still ... everything except me. My mind won't rest and my body has no real desire. So much has gone on in this past month that my head is still spinning. I need to rest, but sleep didn't help. I've slept too much. I love my family and friends, but I think what I really need is just ... time.

That may sound rude, but I really don't mean it to be. There have been things I've felt I needed to express lately and I've no one to express it to. Maybe my thoughts are inappropriate, but they are still what's on my mind. It's like this. My grandpa and my favorite performer died in the same month. Plus I've got this book I'm working on and no one will give me a chance to work on it. I'm over halfway there. I have to piss people off before they are willing to give me time alone. No one seems to respect my time or my polite requests of "I need to get some work done."

So, here it is, the wee hours of the morning and I'm thinking maybe I won't even finish this book. Maybe I'll go back and do another self edit of Wicked City and send it on to my publisher. Only ... I'm afraid that if I let this book rest I'll never finish it. By the time I fight my way free to a few minutes alone, I just don't have the words. I know everything that is supposed to happen. I know how the story ends and why. I'm just so damn pissed off by the time I get to my computer that I can't say it the way it needs to be said.

I don't think people really understand that this is so much more than what I do. This is who I am and if I don't get time to express myself I may explode.

This is one of those moments where I've decided to open up and let you guys see the real me. After all, authors are people just like everybody else. We've all got lives, families and our own brand of frustrations.

On top of everything else, there is someone that up until a few months ago I was very close to. Now we never see each other and barely speak. I'm dealing with that loss just as surely as my grandpa. Even though this other person is still alive ... I'd never know it. I won't push myself where I'm not wanted. I thought of this person as my family and now I feel I've been abandoned. When you're used to someone being there and then suddenly they're not ... it's definitely a loss. I never saw our friendship ending this way. Honestly, I didn't see it ending at all.

Things are just crazy all over. The loss of friends and loved ones combined with the need of others to be close to me ... it's all combined to make me have no time for myself. I love that others love me enough to want to be near me. But if I don't get time to finish some of my writing soon ... they'll be effectively stifling one of the things they love about me. At least ... they all say they love my creativity.

Here's to hoping I don't sound like a total bitch.

I can't believe Michael Jackson is dead

Michael Jackson died today and all I want to do is cry. I know that may sound strange, what with the scandals that haunted his career near the end. But when I was growing up, Michael was cool. His music makes me feel good. It makes me smile and brings back memories of a time when I had a whole lot less to worry about. Even on the worst days, like today, when everything turns to shit in a minute, his music can lift me up.

The King of Pop will always have a place in my heart. He will be remembered not for what he may or may not have done, but for the way his music made me feel. God bless his family in this time of need and may he rest in peace.

Something funny and a bit of good news

I've had a hard time writing lately. As some of you may know, my grandfather recently passed away. Since then I have had several other family members who have had health problems as well. Things are looking better last I heard for everyone. But, it's hard to write romance when you are concerned about things like that.

I'm just now beginning to clear my head and get back to work on that space opera of mine. Which is going quite well when I get a minute to work on it:)

I wanted to take a minute and thank everyone who has helped to make Bitten such a success. Bitten is continuing to climb over at Fictionwise and it's all thanks to you:) This is the most successful book I've written so far and despite everything else that has been going on, I am thrilled.

Now, for the something funny I promised. Watch at your own risk. LOL Here's the basic story ... Batman is here to end Joker's crime wave ... but he had too many shrooms. Hey, I said I'd been trying to clear my head, comedy helps me do that:)

Good news and sad

Bitten is the #3 bestseller for NCP at Fictionwise and the #1 highest rated. Plus, it's #41 in the Erotica category. Holy crap! I have never had a book do this well at Fictionwise. I am so excited. Looks like my readers and I are on the same page because I thoroughly enjoyed writing this book. Thanks so much to everyone who has helped to make Bitten such a success. I really do appreciate your support:)

This couldn't have come at a better time to cheer me up. My grandfather passed away yesterday. The funeral will be tomorrow. I'm still not sure how to react. We knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it easier. I was just so glad to have some good news to report. And yet ... it seems morbid to enjoy life sometimes when faced with the reality of death. My grandpa had already had so many strokes that he wasn't really where I could tell him about my writing career once it got started. But I know he would have been proud of me. As would all of my relatives who have already passed on. Their blood and creativity live on through me and in their own way, through our memories and DNA, they have found immortality.

Pa was a man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures and I really don't think he'd mind that I'm happy about my book sales today. Happiness is a choice and truly a simple pleasure.

Another "running on all-fours" dream

I'm not sure you could call this dream reoccurring, since it is never the same. Only one element remains each time, running on all-fours. I have been having dreams similar to this for ... I'd say at least six years, maybe more. I haven't kept an exact count. I do keep a dream journal. And since I'm fascinated with dreams, I do quite a bit of dream interpretation. This one has me stumped as far as interpreting, but I highly enjoy it every time:) Anyone out there care to give it a shot?

Here's last night's dream:

I was in the parking lot of my old high school. The old building has long since been torn down and a new one built on the same site. In this dream, construction was still going on. I had been walking around, not sure why. I remember needing to get inside before they closed.

I took off on all fours, running through the grass and clay. This is the first time in a dream like this that I've gotten my hands dirty. When I stopped in front of the door, obviously the girl inside looked at me funny. LOL I mean, I'd just been running full out like an animal across the grass. I held up my hand and said, "I need to wash my hands. Can you let me inside?"

She did. I washed my hands and she quickly locked me out. hahaha The next thing I know I'm in a mall. Don't remember ever being in this mall before, but it had nice carpet:) I couldn't seem to get where I wanted to go fast enough. So, in front of everyone I started running on all-fours again. I didn't get nearly as many strange looks as I'd expected.

Then, I woke up. The thing that always strikes me about these dreams is how good running like this feels on my hands. Always there is cool grass crunching underneath my palms, the wind in my face, and a sense of absolute freedom. It feels powerful, good, and free. I've never ran in a building before, until this dream. I enjoyed the carpet, but not nearly as much as wet grass.

If anyone has seen the new Wolverine movie, in my dreams I run exactly like Sabertooth. So, when I saw the movie, I didn't have to imagine what that would feel like, I know. Yes, my hair grows really fast and I do feel drawn to Wolverine. But that's beside the point.

Does anyone have any clue what this reoccurring element to my dreams, or this dream in particular might mean? Like I said, it's been going on for a long time.

I'm still here

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've just had a lot going on and am a bit overwhelmed. Mostly financial stuff that I won't get into. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a second job that will pay anything at all and not screw me out of hours or screw me out of the job completely.

Anyways, I'm still here. I'm still writing. I've just got a lot of crap going on.

About the space opera I'm working on

I think this space opera is going to be great once I get finished. Here's the plot so far. There are five intergalactic mercenaries who, because of the side they take in a war, get accidentally labeled as superheroes. LOL

Beyond that, there are two crew members who have a relationship they are trying to deny developing between them. It's some pretty hot stuff. Right now I'm about 34 pages in and we're on our way to rescue a friend from a sex slave trade on a foreign planet. Woohoo!

Oh, I forgot to mention it still has paranormal elements. One of the main characters is a part of an endangered species ... vampires.

Blah, Blah, Blah

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I've been really busy with a little of this and that. One of my friends is about to have a baby any day now, so I've been spending some time with her. We've been crab fishing and to the beach several times. (Yes, the pregnant lady too. lol) None of us particularly like the sun, so we've been going at night. lol

Besides that, I've started a new book. The working title is The Night Shift. It's a space opera, my very first. If you're wondering what a space opera is, please dismiss ideas of someone in a phantom mask singing about his loneliness in space. hahahha

A space opera is like a soap opera, it just takes place in space. Of course, there are other more genre specific things that define it, but that's a pretty simple way to sum it up.

I should be writing right now. I'm really running on empty here. I've been too busy. I need to be working, plus I think I should just go ahead and realize that my critique partner is gone. Not to get into details, but I think the part of her life where she listens to (and helps proof read) my stories is over. I should just suck it up and get used to doing it by myself.

Holy crap I'm tired. I'm gonna try to get some writing done before I have to go to my other job.

Is there any more room for me in those jeans?

I'm having a pervy moment here. lol One of my favorite movies is Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. Both actors who star in this film are sexy. (In my opinion) But Don Johnson just does it for me.

Honestly, minus the beard, he's how I picture Marco ... right down to the jeans. If you ever watch it, I'm sure you'll appreciate the way those jeans wear him. I was just watching some of the movie again, just to watch him walk. I can't help but wonder ... Is there any more room for me in those jeans?

You don't write fiction the way you write a literary novel

It just doesn't work that way. I have been reading so much lately (mostly online) about how a novel should be written. Geez. Every time I start to think I might know a little bit about what I'm doing I try to improve my craft by reading some "how to" stuff. Immediately I get confused and figure I know nothing, because everyone has a different idea of how things should be done.

The subjects I have been looking at lately are about point of view (when to switch within a story or to switch at all), grammar, punctuation, dialogue tags (he said, she said, etc.) and on and on. Well, some things are pretty cut and dried, like dialogue tags. You don't want to go on and on. A simple "he said" should work. Or you could convey emotion in what he does in the rest of the paragraph and completely leave out "he said" because obviously he is the one speaking. (Still a bit confusing, I know, but I am half asleep here.)

There is one person (and I'm not naming names) but every time this person says something, it's to go on and on about how something should be written. Proper sentence examples, grammar exercises, etc. (No, none of it is aimed personally at me. I have just made this observation.)

I do try to improve myself, because I feel it is necessary to stay in this business. And I do want to stay in the business. However, I feel that too many writers (and maybe a few editors) have forgotten that we are writing popular fiction here, not literary novels.

Here's a good example of what I'm trying to say (but probably messing up because it's after 1:00 in the morning and I'm exhausted)

http://drunkwritertalk.blogspot.com/2007/06/grammar-in-popular-fiction.html

As you can see in this blog post, everyone has a slightly different opinion on how things should be done. It's the same everywhere I look.

Okay, so here's what I've decided. I'm going to continue telling the stories that I feel need to be told. I will tell them in first person or omniscient, since those are my preferred styles. And I DON'T think that omniscient is "head-popping." My high school English teacher explained it to me years ago as "it's like God is telling the story, because only He could know everything."

I also think it is perfectly acceptable to switch point of view in a paragraph as long as it flows and readers can clearly understand who is doing what. A good writer can do this. I see it all the time, so I know it can be done. My goal is to be good enough. I enjoy reading books like this. Not convoluted head popping, but a flow of action, emotion, and dialogue.

I also think it's perfectly acceptable to start a sentence with "and" in a popular fiction novel. Popular fiction (to me) is written more like how people actually speak rather than how they should speak. That's probably the best way I can sum it up. That's also what makes popular fiction so easy to read and so ... well, popular.

Most "great literary works" bore the living shit out of me. If that means I'm uncultured and/or retarded then so be it. I hate that crap. I hate having to worry about perfect comma placement too. I'm not trying to be the next Jane Austen, I'm working on being the first ME. I had an English teacher in college who said that a comma should be placed where there would be a natural pause in the sentence. Like if you were speaking aloud rather than writing. Now THAT made sense. And that's what I try to do.

Then again, every friggin English teacher (just like every article I've read online) said something different.

I have come to the conclusion (purely my own) that there are no hard and fast rules. I strive to tell a good story in a way that the reader can connect with. I try (through numerous self edits and a crit partner's gracious help) to have as few errors as possible in my work. But if I focused on every little nit-picky thing to do with grammar instead of the story, then I would never have written a single page, let alone just finished my 13th book. With nine of those under contract (I have only submitted nine for publication) I must be doing something right.

To hell with trying to understand the rules.

Catching up

I didn't realize it had been so long since I blogged. Nothing is wrong. Actually, quite a bit is going right:) I've just been really busy. I finally finished Wicked City and it is AWESOME. LOL Seriously, not just because I wrote it, but I loved this story so much. I really got into the characters and it has the happiest ending I've ever written:) How could such a dark story have such a happy ending? You'll just have to read it and see. lol That is once I finish editing it and decide where I'm submitting it.

Plus, one of my cats just had two kittens. I have been busy playing nanny and loving every fuzzy minute of it. I love animals:) Anything cute and furry gets my attention. They are 15 days old and their heads are still too heavy to walk much. lol It's so friggin' cute watching them try.

That's right, I like werewolves, vampires, even an occasional zombie ... and kittens. hahahahaha I'll try to post some pictures in the next few days.

Can vampires dance like sugarplums?

Maybe so, because that's what's been in my head lately. LOL Sorry I haven't blogged for a few weeks. I've been having a lot of allergy problems and battling a sinus induced migraine. Blah.

But other than that, things have been going pretty well. I'm still working on Wicked City, though I haven't had the time to work on it as much as I'd like. I told a friend of mine the other day that when I finally finish this story it will be my masterpiece. At least ... until I write something else. LOL Seriously, I do think it is turning out to be a wonderful story. Wicked City is one of the darkest things I've ever written. It has strong Gothic overtones and even though it is graphically violent, it has some of the most passionate sex I have ever written.

Aside from working on my latest book, I've been reading the adventures of Vampire Hunter D (which I have loved since I was a child) and playing Tenchu Stealth Assassins. LOL Growing up is overrated.

Friday, March 13, 2009

Special Announcement:)

Guest what guys? I'm featured in this month's Brass Spectacle Magazine! *Go me, go me. It's not my birthday.* LOL

Okay, I'll stop dancing, but I refuse to take off the purple hat. Anyway, the short story I have featured (and mentioned on the cover) Wooo! is called Bitten. This is actually the introduction to the novel Bitten, which was released just last month:)

So, if you like it (short story) then you can visit http://www.traceyhkitts.com/ and find out how to purchase the full novel. Pretty cool, huh?

Hope you like it:)

Coming Undone

That's what I feel like ... like I'm coming undone. My mind is raveling out at the edges and soon there will be only a few threads left. Shreds of sanity. I know that with times as tough as they are right now that I'm not the only one experiencing problems. But when you're faced with crap day after day, it can feel that way sometimes. I just feel ... lost.

I recently took another part-time job, but it looks as if I'm going to get royally screwed out of that too. *sigh* Just when I thought something was finally going to go my way. Sure, book sales are up. But I'm still new to the publishing world, people haven't really had a chance to hear about me. Mostly because I can't afford to advertise. And F***ing pirates are robing me blind.

I love to write, it's my dream. For a few minutes I feel free. When I put words onto the page it's like the rest of the world magically disappears and I get to go someplace that I'd never get to go otherwise. When I write I get to be who I truly am and experience what I was meant to do with my life. But I really can't afford to do that for free. Struggling as I am financially it enrages and at the same time breaks my heart to see my work ripped off so blatantly. It just makes it worse that I'm so broke. And it makes me even more depressed.

No matter what I do I can't seem to catch a break and it's really starting to take a toll on me. The story I'm working on now is so good. I think it's really some of my best work. But every time I try to work on it something else happens. Something sets my emotions in turmoil and the mood is lost and I can't write for at least a few hours, sometimes days .... Will I ever finish it? I hope so because I'd love to see what happens. Will the rest of my life hold off on catastrophes long enough for me to do that? Who knows.

I realize that I'm not the only one with problems and I'm not the only writer out there facing these kinds of issues. But it makes me feel better to write about it. To reach out with my words whether anyone understands or even cares what I have to say. It's therapy for me. And I readily admit I need it.

I'm a fighter by nature, but I've never been so close to throwing in the towel. I never expected being a writer to be glamorous. I never had delusions of living like an actor. But I didn't expect that people would steal hundreds of dollars of my income, which I badly need, and not even give a damn about it. You know, technically, since I give 10% of all my royalties to St. Jude, they are stealing from those kids too. If you just want to get nasty about it. I hope some ebook pirates read this and it makes them feel like crap. Not only am I going under, but they are stealing donations from children in need. Suck on that for a while.

As far as the second job business. I give up. I'm going to continue to look, simply because I don't know what else to do. But there's nothing out there. And nowhere where they won't stab you in the back. It only took this new place two weeks. Hell, that's a record even for me. I won't get into all of it and I won't name names, but I will briefly explain what happened. I was hired (out of nowhere) for a job and I was being trained for a higher position. After two weeks, suddenly a woman who had previously quit called up and gets her job back. You guessed it, the position I was being trained to do. Their excuse? We needed someone who was already trained. Bullshit! What were they doing with me then? Wasting my time, that's what. So now my hours are cut AND I don't get the position that I was told was already mine. Ain't that some crap? Who the hell just calls up and says they want their job back? Something is dirty there. You don't quit and then just "get" your job back. Something is not right.

But that's the hell I'm in at the moment and the main reason that I'm so depressed tonight. I'm trying hard not to have a panic attack, wondering what I'm going to do now. Without the money to advertise, no one will ever hear about me ..... and I can't afford to do anything but write .... with piracy being what it is ... I really can't afford to do that much longer.

Unless something changes drastically and very soon .... I'm screwed.

Texting

I am amazed at how much can be communicated through text messaging. When “texting” first became popular, I thought it was stupid. I know, I know. I’m not calling people who text stupid, just the concept. I spent so many years in school learning proper grammar and now I can say things like FU and people don’t need the other letters in between? LOL

Suddenly the hilarity of the situation struck me. You can have an entire argument in text and if someone doesn’t know what you’re saying it’s even funnier. LOL Check this out. I’ll just refer to the people here as some random letters. Hmmm. I pointed to H and J on the alphabet so that’s what they’ll be. The following is a late night text session. LOL Be warned, some of it is vulgar, most of it is stupid, but all of it is funny. An interpretation shall follow.

J: U up?
H: RU? LOL
J: SMT Ass
H: LOL What RU doing? STM?
J: N Jail NBD
H: Wow. STBY
J:TFTHAOT
H: What DU want me 2do?
J: BJ?
H: !!!! ^URS
J: TDTM:)
H: RU kidding? I’m still mad at u.
J: 4what?
H: Uknow.
J: C’mon. It was funny. SICS
H: FU
J: F me?!
H: …
J: CRBT …
H: SIUYA How did U get N jail?
J: SH CUHMO?
H: EM
J: LOL IFIC
H: Seriously, FU.
J: No, FU!
H: STFU!
J: SMB!
H: SOB.
J: Thought U liked my SOH. Hee hee
H: ESAD SOI
J: HA! I’ll MIUTY
H : … SRSLY ?
J : I’ll B Out by Noon:) C U Then ?
H: WFM
J: ELNT

Interpretation of abbreviations. Use at your own hilarity. LOL And no they are not in order:)

CU – See you
WFM – Works for me
ELNT – Excellent
SRSLY – Seriously
MIUTY – Make it up to you
ESAD – Eat s*** and die
SOI – Self owned idiot
U – You
SOH – Sense of humor
SOB – Do I really need to spell this one out?
STFU – Shut the f**** up
SMT Ass – Smart ass
LOL – Laugh out loud
STM – Spanking the monkey
NBD – No big deal
STBY – Sucks to be you
TFTHAOT – Thanks for the help ahead of time
BJ – C’mon you already know this one.
^URS – Up yours
TDTM – Talk dirty to me
SICS – Sitting in chair snickering
CRBT – Crying real big tears
SIUYA – Shove it up your ass
SH – Shit happens
CUHMO – Can you help me out?
EM – Eat me
IFIC – If I could
SMB – Suck my balls

Hey, I told you it was vulgar. LOL

I feel like crap

Great subject line, huh? LOL Seriously, this is the third night in a row that I haven't gotten any sleep. I think I've got food poisoning. Having had it before, I recognize the symptoms. It isn't severe enough to go to the hospital. It's just enough to piss me off and keep me from resting or getting much work done.

My biggest problems are stomach ache and nausea. That's not so bad. But after three days, it's Hell. The good news is that I've had time to come up with some interesting plot twists for my new story. Might as well since I couldn't sleep. The bad news is I've felt too crappy to write them into the book.

I've got bits and pieces on post-it notes, so they'll eventually make it there. So far I think that Wicked City is the best book I've ever written. I know, I know, I said that about the last three books I've written. But technically ... aren't I supposed to get better at this as I go?

I'm really getting into these characters. I wrote a scene a few nights ago that was just so intense. I immediately had to call my friend and read it to her. LOL I was thrilled when she agreed with me:) Trust me when I say that it wasn't to save my feelings. She's told me plenty of times when something was stupid and this was truly a great scene. There was just such ... emotion in so few words ... a lifetime of longing in just a touch. *sigh* It was beautiful. I'm very proud of myself:)

I don't mean that in an "I'm so awesome" sort of way. It's more like a "Holy crap you mean I wrote that?" sort of thing. LOL Know what I mean?

So, since I feel too bad to work on my book and it's after three o'clock in the morning, I'm reading stupid news headlines. I think that most news can fall into that category. Not that there aren't lots of important issues out there. They just aren't usually considered "news worthy," which is sad.

I just read something about an athlete who tested positive for using enhancement drugs. (No, not that kind you pervert.) Now the article headline said, "So-and-so has a problem with Roids." LOL My first thought was, "Why the hell is this guy's hemorrhoid problem major news?" hahahahaha Maybe it's because I'm such a prankster, but when someone says "Roids" I think hemorrhoids. *snicker* (Yes, I know they meant steroids. I'm not retarded, just sick and sleep depraved, um, I mean deprived.)

I've been up for a while so I also took an I.Q. test. I have taken many over the years, from standardized paper and pencil tests to online stuff just for fun. The highest I've ever scored is 162, the lowest (which didn't have as high a scale) was 134. On average I score 154. The test I took tonight told me that most people who got a similar score to mine were criminally insane. Yeah, just when I was starting to feel good about myself someone had to go and point out that I'm most likely crazy. Humph. Stupid test.

I think I'm gonna try to sleep again. I'm suddenly feeling less nauseous:) You've been a great audience. *takes a bow* Please remember to tip your waitress. (That doesn't mean tell her not to eat yellow snow.) Did I ever mention that I tell really bad jokes when I don't get enough sleep?LOL

Something cool

I just got a look at the cover for the March 2009 issue of The Brass Spectacle Magazine. And guess what? I'm mentioned on the cover! Pretty cool, huh? I knew that my short story would be featured in this issue, but I never expected it to be mentioned on the cover. Wow.

The story being featured is Bitten. As some of you may already know, this is the short story (originally written for Coffee Time Romance to share with their readers) that inspired the full length novel. Everyone liked it so much (including me) that I couldn't resist telling the rest of the story.

Bitten, the novel, is scheduled for release sometime later this month with New Concepts Publishing. I have to say, it's the hottest thing I've written to date:)

Hunting Season and Batman

No, I'm not hunting Batman. Although ... that could be interesting:) Actually, I hate hunting season with a passion. It provides me with some time to myself, however, it often wakes me up at the buttcrack of dawn. And I'll be honest, I'm not that fond of buttcracks. Dawn's or anybody else's. LOL

So anyway, I was up obscenely early this morning and ended up watching Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. It's an old show (1993) but I'm not going to give anything away if you haven't seen it. I used to watch the old animated series regularly, but I never got around to watching this before today. I loved it. Yes, it's animated but that doesn't stop it from being better than most live-action movies.

Seeing as how I'm such a huge fan, I'm surprised I hadn't watched it before now. Well, not really huge ... I'm only five foot four. hahahahahahahaha Sorry, not enough sleep and NO caffeine. Bear with me. When my brain gets sleep deprived for long enough I turn into a comedian. Or at least, I think I do. Other than that I'm just a jerk. Nice combination:) So now I'm a sleep deprived jackass who finds my own jokes funny. Ah, feels just like junior high school all over again.

I think my favorite part in the whole show was when Joker picked up this huge piece of salami and started beating a woman in the face with it. *snort* Come on, doesn't anyone else see the awful pun besides me? LOL Surely I'm not the only one thinking of numerous meat beating jokes even as I type:) And in the FACE? HA!

If you don't think it's funny, that's alright. (*sniff* But you hurt my feelings.) Trust me, it's best that I get all the bad jokes out of my system now before I start writing. Oh yeah, I started a new book Wednesday night. I'm calling it Wicked City. So far, I'm completely in love with the bad guy. As usual. I'd better hurry up and introduce the hero before this story gets really messed up. It's going great though. This is another urban fantasy along the same lines as Eden (April 09). However, to my knowledge some of the stuff I'm doing in this book has never been done. I'm throwing in whatever fits with the "dark and brooding" feel of this story. It is by far the darkest thing I've ever written and I've only just begun. I mean that literally, the city is suffering from power outages. hahahahahaha

Seriously, it is sort of creepy. But I like it that way. Oh, and did I mention there's lots of hot vampires and a few drool worthy werewolves? Oh, yeah. It's time to get to work ... and to the coffee pot.

And in other more positive news ....

I simply have to focus on something positive. I started out having a perfectly good day until I realized that the people mentioned below had not kept their word and removed my content from their site.

But, enough about those jerks. I just received a new contract! Woohoo! Just as soon as I can I'm putting it in the mail and Diary of an Incubus is officially under contract with New Concepts Publishing.

In light of this much improved news (and my desperate need to focus on something that doesn't raise my blood pressure) here is my happy dance. LOL

Hey, if I don't dance I go off like The Hulk sometimes. Seriously, I have anger issues. Couldn't you tell? LOL I try to keep it on a short leash, but the dog gets loose every now and then.

Rant about Piracy

I found this article http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=3151 while looking for steps to take to get my works off of an illegal site. It explains in detail why it is illegal to share ebook files.

Some of you (who have dealt with this before) have probably already heard of them (the ones who are ripping me off). But I'm not listing the site. I'll be damned if I give the little bastards any free advertisement!

I just found that they are ripping off every single book in my series. Not only that, but it lists how many times the books have been downloaded. As it stands now, I've lost over $400 dollars.
That counts, trust me. I have lost two different day jobs because of budget cuts/bad economy. And some little snot is going to rip me off?!!

I am also not married to someone rich. So I need the money. Hell, that's a car payment they've cheated me out of!

It is because of crap like this that I question my sanity sometimes. Do these punks even realize how little writers get paid? Not that they would probably care. Most authors, even if they are well known, make less than $10,000 a year. That's below poverty level! And let me tell you I am in that lot. In my first full year of being published I was WELL below $10,000.

Making a name for yourself takes time and you guessed it, MONEY. Something these little pricks are screwing me out of at an alarming rate.

No, this may not be the most professional blog post, but it is honest. This is how I feel and I'm not going to apologize for that. I am FURIOUS that these people are stealing from me. And yes, I have taken steps to make them remove the content. My polite and professional emails have been responded to with a "it will be removed in 24 hours." Bullshit. It's still there days later.

BELOW THIS POINT IS DIRECTED TO ANYONE WHO IS RIPPING OFF MYSELF OR OTHER HARD WORKING AUTHORS.

Just in case someone who uploads books for free reads this and doesn't read the link I have given above, let me spell something out for you. Giving away an ebook is ILLEGAL.

It's not like purchasing a paperback. A paper copy is yours. It is a physical product you can pay for and hold in your hand. You can do with it what you like. With the exception of making copies and distributing them to others.

NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE!!!! If you send an ebook to someone else, you are making copies. It's the same as if you Xeroxed a print book and sent it to all of your friends. The author nor the publisher profits from that and most writers are like me, they need the money.

Every time you see a copyright notice (which is in the front of all print and ebooks) that means that the people listed there are the owners of that content. Unless you have their permission to distribute the book, you are breaking the law if you do so.

How would you feel if someone stole your purse and handed out all the contents to strangers? Or if someone stole your iPod and then sold it on ebay? It sucks, I know.

I'm not looking to scare anyone or to get involved in a lawsuit. I just want people to respect the right of myself and other authors to be able to profit from their hard work. No one would want to work for a month (or months) and then have their paycheck snatched out of their hand when they had bills to pay, now would they?

Some day these people will get what they deserve.

Sunrise and Coffee

It's cold this morning, but my thoughts are warm. A lot of good things have happened for me in the past few days, and I'm taking a moment to count my blessings. I'm up for the first time in a while, early enough to watch the sunrise ... and I don't have insomnia. I actually got a good night's rest and felt like getting up early. That in itself is a small miracle.

Sunrise has always been sort of magical to me. The way the light slowly peeks through the clouds, just seconds before it breaks over the landscape like a wave. There are no politics, no worries, no amount of trying that will stop the sun from rising. It is constant and in that I find peace. Pictures could never do justice to what I'm watching out my window. So, I didn't take any.

I'm going to pour myself another cup of coffee and rethink that blessings list. I'm sure I've missed something. You can't feel this good and not be blessed .....

Great News!!

I've just learned that Original Sin (Lilith Mercury Book 4) will be going to print in May 2009. Wow. Thanks so much to everyone who has helped to make this series a success. I can't tell you how much it means to me to know that people enjoy my books:)

Holy Crap

I just read the results for the Predators and Editors poll and I can't believe it. This is the first time I've been nominated. I'm still new to the business (first book Red was out in August, 2007, in print August, 2008).

Anyway, I finished #31 for best author and Red finished #36 for best romance novel! Holy Crap! LOL

That's all I can think to say. Talk about making my day:)

Stupid shit people actually put on their resume

Someone just sent this to me and I couldn't resist sharing. I laughed till I started to cough at some of this stupidity. All of my comments are in purple. The rest is the original crapola. LOL

None of this is made up. People really did put this stupid crazy shit on their resumes or job applications.

1. I am very detail-oreinted. (Um ... yeah. I can see that there, Sparky. LOL)

2. My intensity and focus are at inordinately high levels, and my ability to complete projects on time is unspeakable. (ILMAO! Unspeakable! HA! Moron just spoke about it. hahahahahaha)

3. Thank you for your consideration. Hope to hear from you shorty! (*snort*)

4. Enclosed is a ruff draft of my resume. (Maybe he was applying for a job as a crime dog?)

7. I am a quick leaner, dependable, and motivated.

8. If this resume doesn’t blow your hat off, then please return it in the enclosed envelope. (Blow your hat off? Are they serious? Did the Uni bomber write this? Um, if it doesn't blow your hat off then I didn't wire it correctly.)

9. My fortune cookie said, “Your next interview will result in a job.” And I like your company in particular. (So sad.)

10. I saw your ad on the information highway, and I came to a screeching halt. (Dumbass.)

11. Insufficient writing skills, thought processes have slowed down some. If I am not one of the best, I will look for another opportunity. (This is awesome. hahahahahahaha)

13. Seek challenges that test my mind and body, since the two are usually inseparable.

14. Graduated in the top 66% of my class. (Ouch.)

15. Reason for leaving last job: The owner gave new meaning to the word paranoia. I prefer to elaborate privately. (OMG! That's terrible. Sure, I've worked for plenty of assholes too, but come on. Elaborate privately? Really? I'd have to interview this nut just to ask them to elaborate.)

16. Previous experience: Self-employed-a fiasco. (hahahahahahahahahahaha)

17. Exposure to German for two years, but many words are inappropriate for business. (Can you teach me?)

18. Experience: Watered, groomed, and fed the family dog for years.

22. Strengths: Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining composer.

23. I worked as a Corporate Lesion. (I think I had one of those once ....)

24. Reason for leaving last job: Pushed aside so the vice president’s girlfriend could steal my job. (HOLY CRAP. I feel their pain. Probably a very honest answer, but I can't believe they put this on an application.)

25. Married, eight children. Prefer frequent travel. (LOL I'll bet you do!)

26. Objective: To have my skills and ethics challenged on a daily basis. (Brilliant!)

27. Special skills: Thyping. (Hmmmm.)

29. I can play well with others. (This might work on a porn star's resume. *snicker*)

30. Personal Goal: To hand-build a classic cottage from the ground up using my father-in-law. (WTF? Ah, the pain. I've laughed so hard.)

31. Objective: I want a base salary of $50-$60,000 dollars, not including bonus. And some decent benefits. Like a retirement plan, health insurance, personal or sick days. (And I'd like to be crowned the queen of the universe, but that shit ain't happenin.)

32. Experience: Provided correct answers to customers’ questions.

33. Education: Graduated from predatory school with honors. (Makes me think of werewolves. LOL)

39. While in military, was instrumental in creation of a treat detection system. (I'm sorry, you did what?)

40. My compensation package at my last job included a base salary of $64,500 with excellent benefits including flextime. I am looking for a position in which I can work a more flexible schedule.

41. Hire me and you won’t regret it - I am funny, cute, smart and creative… really. (Well, hell. That would work for me.)

42. Referees available upon request. (Holy crap.)

43. Previous rank: Senior instigator. (Can't breathe ... must stop laughing at *gasp* stupid people.)

44. I have recently sold my home and I now live in a large RV so I will be able to relocate quickly.

45. Reason for leaving: They stopped paying me. (Well, F*** them! I'd leave too. LOL)

46. Cover letter: Desire the chance to showcase my delightful personality, intelligence and superior judgment, which are so hard to find these days. (Three finger gag.)

47. Personal achievements: Successfully played “Chop Sticks” on a toy piano with my big toes. (Wow. Really? I can do that cherry stem thing with my tongue ... I'm just saying.)

First ever excerpt of Eden

The following is an excerpt from Eden by Tracey H. Kitts, coming in April to New Concepts Publishing.

Catrina's world is turned upside down the moment she agrees to Viktor's plan. Who even knew that Abraham Van Helsing had a younger brother? Not only that, but a brother who was turned by the King of Vampires and who held such obvious power. Now she must deal with the consequences of her actions and an attraction she can no longer deny.

Excerpt:

"No visitors during the day," he deep voiced guard said firmly.

Catrina looked over her shoulder at the sunset.

"It's dusk," she said softly. "And Viktor is expecting me."

She stepped forward and handed the card Viktor had given her to the guard. The address was printed on the front in an intricate swirling font and on the back was his signature.

"Fine, then," the guard said, stepping aside as he opened the door. "Wait in the lobby."

Her heels clicked loudly on the highly polished floor, echoing in the silence of the large room. A young man was hurrying about, lighting what looked to be hundreds of candles. Tall marble columns reached to the high ceilings and the furniture looked to be Victorian in style. As she got closer she decided that the furniture was Victorian and it wasn't fake.

"Who have you come to see?" another young man asked before she could sit down.

"Viktor Van Helsing."

"I shall inform him," the boy said with bow.
About twenty minutes later, Catrina was still admiring the architecture when Viktor entered the room. She felt him before he came into sight and began to put up her shields. Her heart tried to race, but she slowed it. Her palms began to sweat, but she wiped them on the cushion beside her and tried to think of something that didn't turn her on.

"Let's see," she thought. "Something that doesn't turn me on. Like gardening, jewelry and … pajamas."

Pajamas?! Viktor had come to greet her in his pajamas! They were black and looked to be made of silk. The robe he wore was long enough to drag the floor behind him and it was the darkest shade of red she had ever seen. His hair trailed down his back, hanging in waves which framed his face. She couldn't control her heartbeat any more when she realized he wasn't wearing a shirt … or shoes. She had never had a foot fetish, but looking at Viktor's feet, it didn't seem like such a bad idea.

"My Hellcat," he said softly, and his sultry voice felt like a hand going up her thigh. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

Catrina placed a hand over her heart in an attempt to slow it down. Though the gesture was subtle, it was not lost on the master vampire. He had always known she deliberately blocked his charms. Who'd have thought that all it took to break past her barrier was a little exposed flesh?
"I've come to discuss the business matter you brought up a few nights ago," she said, her voice surprisingly steady.
"How wonderful," he said.

Viktor leaned forward and extended a hand toward her. He wasn't just offering to help her stand, he was asking for an unspoken answer. He knew that she would not speak of their arrangement in front of the guards and the servants. But if she took his hand it meant that she was in agreement with what he had suggested.

She knew what he was trying to do and gave herself permission to enjoy the feel of his long fingers as they gently squeezed her hand.

"Please, come with me," he said silkily.

Catrina rose to her feet and found that the touch of Viktor's hand made her feel lightheaded. Had it been because she had wanted to touch him for so long? Or was it a part of his vampiric powers?

"A little of both, I imagine," he said softly as he led her down a corridor.

"What?" she stammered.

"You were wondering which had caused you to be lightheaded, my powers or the fact that you have denied yourself my touch for so long."

She gasped. "You can read my mind?"

"Always could, my dear, if you hadn't blocked me for so long." He laughed softly at her shocked expression. "Do not be alarmed. I can see where the full effect of my powers might come as a great shock to someone who has not allowed herself to feel them before. Seeing your reaction is also a pleasure I have long been denied. Indulge me."

They reached the end of the long corridor and the vampire leaned around her to open a door. His hair spilled across her face and Catrina breathed deeply of the sweet scent of his shampoo.

"Viktor," she said, and it came out as more of a moan.

"Yes." He said so much with that one word and it was nearly more than she could take.

"Maybe I shouldn't …"

"Do not fear me," he whispered as he tugged her gently forward and through the door.

The hand which he still held felt so small inside his own. Viktor was overcome with the urge to both protect and devour her.

Catrina's own thoughts were along the same lines. Viktor had never looked better and that was saying a lot because he had always looked damn good. She had come here with every intention of discussing business, yet pleasure was all that she could think of. She reminded herself that it had been a year since she'd had sex and that relationship hadn't lasted long.

"Such a shame," Viktor commented as he led her down a long staircase.

"Stop it," she said and he stopped instantly in his tracks.

"What is it you wish me to stop, leading you to my bedroom or telling you the truth about yourself?"

What I'm working on right now

I'm working on reading through and polishing up a book before sending it to my publisher. It's called Diary of an Incubus and here is the first ever excerpt:) Actually, it's just a tease, but I hope you all enjoy it.

"Listen to me," I said softly. "Tonight you are Vincent because I need you to be. That doesn't mean that I believe what you're telling me." I looked up into his eyes. They were warm and welcoming. "But that doesn't mean I don't believe either."
"You are open to the possibility then?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Good. That is a good place to start."
He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. I reached past him and locked it. My arm brushed against his waist when I moved and I could scarcely control myself. I wanted to tackle him right there. Whoever he was, he was Vincent tonight … my Vincent.
"What else do you need me to be tonight?"
His voice touched me long before his hands ever did as he moved to cup my face in his palms.
"Mine."
The word barely had time to escape my lips before he kissed me. My body responded instantly. I ached for so much more than a kiss. But these lips! How many times had I tried to remember every detail of these lips? He was right. My first taste of love was still here and it was just as sweet as I remembered. I didn't know how it was possible and tonight I wasn't going to try to figure it out anymore. I needed this.

Thanks for reading.
